This provides food for bacteria that grow in a sticky layer called plaque that adheres to your teeth. This substance is the primary cause of tooth decay and periodontal disease. Brushing your teeth after every meal not only removes food debris, but also, and more importantly, plaque.

Fluoride toothpastes are important because this substance, deposited on the enamel, strengthens it by remineralizing it, and also carries disinfectant substances that reduce the formation of plaque.

The toothbrush should have synthetic bristles so they are rounded, prevent fraying, and prevent bacteria from accumulating inside. The head should be small enough to reach all areas of the mouth, even the most remote areas. It should be changed every 3-4 months, because worn bristles no longer clean teeth properly and can even damage the gums.

The oral hygiene technique to be followed is the so-called modified bass technique. It is performed as follows: the toothbrush is placed on the tooth surfaces with the head and handle parallel to the gum, halfway between the tooth and the gum; the bristles should be angled approximately 45% to the dental axis; the pressure must be sufficient to bend the bristles; applying excessive pressure is useless and even harmful; in the upper jaw, start on the outside of the back teeth with a vibrating and rotating motion that flakes off the plaque, then with a top-down action, this substance is removed. (See figure 1)

The same action should be performed on the inside of the same arch on all teeth, including the front teeth. Then, move on to the lower arch, performing the same movements, except that the plaque is removed with a bottom-up motion. Here, don't forget to clean the lower incisors on the inside, an area often overlooked, directing the bristles toward the outside of the mouth. (See figure 2)

Obviously, you will also need to brush the grinding surface of the teeth on both arches; this is the only area where horizontal brushing should be performed. (See figure 3)

Therefore, you need to clean your teeth, focusing repeatedly on the same spot all around the tooth, without missing any areas. This means that to properly clean your teeth, you need to brush for at least 3 minutes (I recommend timing them because they'll seem like forever!) at each session. But it will be time well spent for the health of your teeth. You need to try to concentrate on what you're doing in front of the mirror, so that brushing your teeth isn't just about freshening your breath.

Speaking of bad breath, it can be "bad" for various reasons, including digestive issues, but more often it's due to poor oral hygiene, decayed teeth, or bridges whose supporting abutments have been destroyed by decay. Therefore, if this unpleasant problem is plaguing you, the first thing to do is a careful assessment of your oral health.

Dental floss removes plaque from between the teeth and under the gums, areas inaccessible to a toothbrush. Since tooth decay and periodontal disease often originate in these areas, it's a good idea to use it at least once a day. Since it's not always easy to use, don't be discouraged if you have trouble at first. With practice, flossing will only take a few minutes a day, which will be rewarded with healthy gums and teeth. Cut about 30-40 centimeters of floss and wrap it around your right thumb and left index finger to clean the upper right arch, and around your left thumb and right index finger to clean the upper left arch. Use your two index fingers for the entire lower arch. Then, pass the floss between two teeth using a back-and-forth motion that opens up the many smaller strands and thins it, until it reaches the base of one tooth. Without forcing the gum, instead, use a bottom-up motion beneath it, with the floss curved around the tooth. After repeating this motion several times, pass over the gum line and move to the other tooth, repeating the same steps. By doing this for all teeth, you will achieve excellent results. (See figures 4, 5, and 6)

There are various types of floss on the market; the important thing is that they are made of multiple strands, fluoridated and unwaxed. In the case of advanced periodontal problems where the interdental papilla is compromised, creating a triangular space between teeth, or in the case of fixed prostheses where flossing is difficult, interdental brushes are useful. These are used by passing between teeth from the outside to the inside and vice versa several times. They perform their task very well even in areas that cannot be reached with dental floss. (See figure 7)

Oral rinses are an additional aid to oral hygiene. The only truly effective ones are those based on a molecule called chloroxdine, which has a strong disinfectant action. They should be used for short periods of 10-15 days unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, at least once a day.

Another useful aid is plaque-disclosing tablets. These are used after thoroughly brushing your teeth using the techniques described above. You then suck on a tablet that will reveal all the plaque that hasn't been removed, using a completely harmless dye. You can then refocus on your oral hygiene, especially on the areas you've neglected, learning through experience to brush your teeth properly.

The final key to prevention is a dental check-up at least every 6 months. Those with tooth decay or periodontal disease may need check-ups and tartar cleanings as often as every 3-4 months.

Having a clean mouth is important, in addition to being healthier it gives you a better smile and fresher breath.
[97

post-2600","page","type-page","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-faq
["GET
